It can either appear with his head towards the screen or with his head to the left. The palm trees on its back also serve as platforms, unlike the original game in which they were only used as hookshot targets.
It functions as an extra platform that at times disappears under water. Melee, the Turtle appears as part of the Great Bay stage, even though it was never near the Marine Research Lab in Majora's Mask.
